My Biography

It's incredible what you can do with a simple piece of fabric. The possibilities really are endless.

Ever since I was a young girl, I loved to create things. It all started with a teddy bear.

One afternoon at my great grandmothers, I was shown how to use a needle and thread. My grandmother pulled out a small basket with an assortment of sewing items and gave me a torn piece of clothing that she allowed me to use for a teddy bear dress. As I sat on her lap she aimed the thread at this little hole in the needle. I was fascinated by the simplicity of it all. With every stitch she would remind me to watch my fingers. A few pricks from the needle later and I was finished.

In a child's eyes the outcome was absolutely perfect. Just what my little bear needed for a nice picnic in the yard. Every stitch, every detail, just perfect. It was wonderful to see how an idea you picture in your mind can materialize and become reality.

Over the years I would alter items of my wardrobe but never anything completely from scratch, like that day at my great grandmothers.

High school began and I decided to take a textile design class. Sure enough I was consumed with the amazing possibilities. Our class started out slow with hand embroidery but soon after we learned how to use the sewing machine. We were assigned to make a pair of pajamas. This task was just too easy, five pairs later and my teacher was thrilled with my desire to make things. The rest of the year we stuck to the sewing machines. After seeing my fascination with sewing my mother decided to get me a machine of my own for Christmas. My creativity spiked.

Senior year I applied for a fashion forward job, a local boutique named The Herb Shop. They hired me through our schools R.O.P. program. With the job I was required to dress professional and girly(I’ve always been a tomboy so this was something new to me). One of my classmates decided to do a fashion show for her senior project which had local businesses showcase merchandise in the show. The owner of my boutique participated in the show and volunteered me for modeling the clothing. It was very nerve racking to think I would be on stage all by myself with an entire crowd looking at me. The show was amazing and nothing like I had imagined. My nerves were better than I had anticipated. My feet didn't betray me and I didn't make a complete fool out of myself. This was an experience nothing like anything I had gone through before. I could definitely see myself doing it again. The owner for the little boutique I worked for decided to retire and closed her shop shortly after I graduated high school.

Surprisingly enough I received a scholarship to pursue my fashion interests and I took Fashion Merchandising classes. As soon as I received my textbooks and laptop for college, the house I was living in caught fire and burned down. The fire demolished everything including my new supplies. Luckily for me, my sewing machine and most of my sewing materials, managed to be at my mother’s house during the fire which made me feel like I dodged a bullet. I volunteered to showcase my own designs in a fashion show. I found models and created 16 items to showcase within 2 months. After having friends and family try on my work I realized it was pretty important to have zippers and buttons for changing in and out of each garment. Of course I hadn't learned how to sew a zipper into a garment yet and didn’t have enough time before the show to put them in, so my models just had to suffer and make do.

My creative streak came to a halt for a few years but I didn’t stop modeling. I was asked to model for multiple local fashion shows while working at a fur and leather shop in the little Victorian town of Nevada City. I became the seamstress there doing leather and fur alterations and repairs, which was very fun for me.

Over the course of 10 years I’ve had my merchandise in several local shops until someone suggested that I try Etsy. I started an online shop through Etsy and still have things listed for sale there to this day.

In 2018 I hosted my first fashion show. Talk about a lot of work. There were modeling auditions, fittings and photo shoots. 2018 was the busiest year of my life. I donated all the proceeds to locals that lost everything in a fire from 2017. After losing my home to a fire about a decade earlier, I really understood what they were going through and wanted to help in some way.

Life happened and now I am married to the love of my life and have 3 goofy kids. I have a day job like most people, eventually I will open a store front. But at this time, you can find my stuff online and I can make custom items that will accommodate your wildest dreams.
